La Causeuse is a brilliant virtuosic piece of physical theatre at the crossroads of dance, mime, physical and object theatre. Steeped in solitude, she guides us through a moving interior dialogue as she revisits fragments from a sordid and doomed romance. As wandering hands seduce and frolic, she dances and wrestles with the enigmatic ghosts of her inner world.
» When I look in the depths of myself I find solitude, solitude and consciousness of death. I enjoy life so much that I am always haunted by death. I can touch it as if beneath the sheets and it procures in me a feeling of anxiety. It comes from the fact that I am an orphan…I feel orphaned….I believe theater is an invention of the people, to combat the solitude and the anxiety. It is a happenstance of lonely people; a gathering of the lonely souls who aim at calming the anxiety, that is to say, a little happiness is created, because happiness for me is the opposite of anxiety. » Jean-louis Barrault
★★★★ » Mixing up mime, movement and unexpected bits of almost-magic, this is a master-class in po-faced, physical clowning » THE EDINBURGH GUIDE
